You Can Do It!

It helps to have a tall student at school! This is a photo of Liam changing the sanctuary lamp. I need to use a chair to reach it and I thought I was tall!  This photo is a metaphor for the "stretching" that takes place in the lives of our students at Good Shepherd. Whether they are brand new students or returning students, they often start the school year wanting to coast their way through without too much effort, but our dedicated teachers stretch them intellectually to make them realize that they are capable of so much more than they realize. One of the things I am emphasizing this year with my 5/6 Grade Religion class is teaching them how to study. It is a skill that many of us adults have forgotten because we have done it for so long. We talk about time management, how to take notes, how to study from notes, how to find the main point of a paragraph, how to reduce distractions, etc. It stretches them to realize that than can turn an F into an A+. Like all good stretching exercise, it takes a little sweat. But in the end, they can reach their goals and light the lamp.
