The other day a 30-something year old man asked me how to go from below average to mediocre in terms of his life's achievements. "Mediocre!", I shouted. "Why not aim for above average?!"
One should never settle for just "getting by." One should aim high. One does that by stretching oneself, by reaching for the sky, by keeping one's head held up high in vision, not looking backwards at defeats. I hope that in this year of teaching at Good Shepherd Catholic School, our students have learned the most valuable lesson: Don't aim for mediocrity, but stretch yourself as much as possible and aim for the heights. Look up at the clouds and not at the earth. As teachers, stretching the students intellectually causes us to stretch ourselves, too. That's the beauty of our Catholic school. We stretch!
