As a teacher, one focuses on the teaching. As a student, one focuses on the social time with friends. The Good Shepherd students love recess because they love spending time with each other and playing outdoors.  It's amazing to me how much they like being outside playing basketball, or just running around the playground. For many of them, the highlight of their day is being with their friends, which makes perfect sense to them, and mystifies me as their teacher. Somehow they are more excited about basketball than ancient Israel. Who would have thought? These are the days of friendship and games--with a little drama thrown in for good measure.
