I recently ran into one of my 2nd Graders at a daily Mass this week. I was chatting with his family and I said to him that I would see him next week when school starts. He was so excited, not simply because school will be starting, but, as he reminded me again, that he will be making his First Holy Communion this year!

     One of the reasons why Catholic education is such a precious gift is that it treats the whole child--body, mind and soul. Good Shepherd Catholic School children receive a solid academic foundation, learn in a morally sound environment, but also advance in their learning about the Catholic Faith. This well-rounded education becomes the building blocks for a strong and healthy adolescence and adulthood.

     I am excited for First Holy Communion, too. We have many months before we arrive at that celebration, but for our Catholic students and families, it is definitely one of the highlights of the school year.
