Explorers and Pioneers

This photo is of the sun setting over Lake Champlain off Isle La Motte, VT. At this beach, the French soldiers built Fort St. Anne in 1666. They were explorers from France coming into the New World for various purposes.

As we begin our 26th school year in a few weeks at Good Shepherd, we think of those pioneers who came before us in St. Johnsbury to establish Catholic education: the Brothers of St. Gabriel, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, and the lay teachers who took over after the Sisters and Brothers left. We build upon those who were pioneers in education here and, we pray, that a century after we have left this world, our descendants will be building upon what we leave beyond: a solid, strong, and vibrant Catholic education.

     What a responsibility to maintain!
