Christmas Break - December 23 through January 3

Chosen by God

This is Catholic Schools Week. There are 6,429 Catholic schools in the United States.  In Vermont, there are 13, two of which are high schools.  As we have been celebrating Catholic Schools Week this year, I am proud that we belong to a small percentage of a universal academic population. That doesn't make us elite; it makes us chosen.  We are chosen by God to spread the Gospel that Jesus Christ is Lord to a culture which doesn't know that.  Each and every single member of the Catholic school community has received that vocation: from the students, to the parents, to the teachers, to the benefactors, to the construction company that built Notre Dame School in 1961. Each of us has been called by God for that particular vocation to advance the Kingdom of God.

When we take that reality for granted, then we are missing out on an occasion to offer God prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving.  Thank God today that you have been chosen and called to belong, in one way or another, to Good Shepherd Catholic School.
