I love this photo taken at recess on a recent rare sunny day! The boys and girls are making the most of the warm day (before more snowstorms). You can tell it's been a long winter for them, but they have "sunshine attitude"! Recess is more than just time to run off pent up energy. It's also a time for fresh air, sunshine and physical movement. It's difficult to sit at desks all day and concentrate so some outdoor time is vital to good health and learning. However, the Swedish educational system is hardier than the American. In Swedish schools, school children still have recess even when it's 20 degrees below zero-with appropriate attire, of course. This time is considered essential for health, daylight exposure and immune system development especially with their long winters. We can learn a lot from the Swedes!!! But I don't think I would volunteer for recess duty.
Thank you for supporting Good Shepherd Catholic School with your donations--whether it's above zero or below!
