Grandparents Day

I was very close to my maternal grandparents growing up. One of the highlights for me every summer was to travel with them to Orwell, VT where my great-grandmother lived. I would spend two weeks there as a young teenager. The days were spent with reading, riding my bike, going fishing with my grandfather and great uncle, dodging bats fluttering around at night--and basically amusing myself. My great-grandmother was born in 1887 and had been an elementary school teacher briefly at the turn of the 20th Century. She got married in 1906, but married women with children in those days couldn't teach, but had to raise their family. Times may have changed, but the love for grandparents endures. Grandparents Day at GSCS makes us all reminisce about happy memories.
