How's Your Blood Pressure?

Many people know that before I became a priest I was a radiologic technologist. I worked at two hospitals: the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (currently UVM Medical Center) in Burlington and Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT. I graduated from UVM and was Board certified and licensed. When God called me to the priesthood though, I had to forsake that career and I miss it every day.

However, I am always encouraging students to pursue careers in health care: medicine, nursing, X-Ray, laboratory, physical therapy, etc. The other day I invited Beth Fauver, RN BSN to speak to the 5th and 6th Grade Religion class about her career as a nurse. She was amazing! The students had lots of questions for her. She also taught the kids how to take blood pressure.

I hope that one day, between Nurse Beth and me, some of these students will pursue careers in health care. Maybe one of them will take care of me in my old age!
